- Abstract
- This issue of AEMS News and Reviews features two deeply reflective films documenting individual journeys within rapidly transforming societies. "Last Train Home" follows the lives of a migrant worker couple in China, part of the country’s vast internal migration phenomenon, as they make the arduous journey home for the New Year holiday to reconnect with their children. Through intimate storytelling, the film captures the emotional toll of economic change on rural families. "Mongolia: Thirty Years Later" documents Dan Zhang’s return to Inner Mongolia three decades after being sent there during China's Cultural Revolution. The film weaves personal memory with social commentary, showcasing the drastic shifts in Mongolian life and landscape through Zhang’s eyes. Both films highlight personal experiences amid broader socio-political upheavals.
