- Abstract
- This issue of AEMS News and Reviews focuses on the lingering impacts of war in Southeast and Central Asia. "Laos: So You Think the War Is Over" offers a sobering look at the enduring legacy of the Vietnam War in Laos, where unexploded ordnance continues to endanger lives decades after the conflict ended. The film exposes how a country not directly involved in the war still bears the burden of its devastation. "The Sweetest Embrace: Return to Afghanistan" follows the emotional journey of two Afghan men who were separated from their families during the Soviet–Afghan war and raised abroad. Now, after decades, they return to a homeland still marked by instability, revealing the personal toll of displacement, war, and diaspora. Together, these documentaries underscore the long shadows cast by foreign conflicts on civilian lives.
