- Abstract
- “Making Hope a Reality” portrays how Golden Veroleum Liberia (GVL) is reshaping livelihoods in Sinoe County, Liberia, where the rainy “hunger season” has long constrained farming and survival. Through its partnership with the Liberian government and local communities, GVL offers employment, literacy training, health care, and educational support. The documentary follows the story of 65-year-old Hannah Doe, one of the company’s first female gang leaders, who not only supports her family with a steady income but also learns to read and write for the first time. Her journey illustrates how corporate investment can foster social transformation—empowering women, encouraging education for future generations, and restoring dignity in post-conflict Liberia. Framed against the backdrop of civil war recovery, the film highlights the interconnection between agribusiness, human capacity-building, and community resilience, positioning GVL’s initiatives as part of Liberia’s broader path toward sustainable development.
