Abstract
This study investigates the sociotechnical aspects of digitally preserving and curating audiovisual (A/V) collections within university archives. This study was conducted through sixteen semi-structured interviews with archivists working in Big Ten university archives. The interview questions included the participants' backgrounds and experiences with A/V archiving, their institution's A/V preservation workflows, and their broader connections and collaborations within the field. The paper highlights these interviews' findings and offers recommendations to support the long-term preservation of A/V materials. It encourages participants to advocate for their A/V materials by sharing collection data with their administrators, openly sharing their experiences working with A/V, visibly collaborating, and offering meaningful opportunities to engage with A/V to students and professionals.
