- Abstract
- For me, collage can simultaneously be a methodology, a conceptual and concrete model for making, a practice of being with others, and a way of understanding our own carried identities. As a shared practice, collage also becomes a critical endeavor of uncovering biases and restrictions we may encounter in ourselves and in learning spaces; critically asking why and how to move beyond and with these elements, together. Collage can only happen through interaction. This image is about resonances, on the right side is black and white photograph taken by a participant during a workshop that combined walking, individual reflection and then collective artmaking. This image shows a right hand holding a small book up and out over a landscape with the pages cascading out from the cover, mirroring the angular pathways and architecture in the background. On the left is my left hand holding this black and white photograph after I had transformed it into a three-dimensional sewn collage. As a collage object, it holds the invitation of thinking together as well as critical reflection that took place through my own making afterwards.
