This project allowed me to understand how transformable structures work, how to generate a 3D model of a transformable structure, and how to use laser cutting and 3D printing technologies provided by the University to bring our digital model to life. The model is 3 ft in diameter when fully expanded, which was accurately calculated by the team members through research and experimentation. This experiment provided a fun learning experience for the team, dividing tasks and putting the model together afterward. In the image are Anna F. and Runyan G. expanding the structure up to 75% of its expansion limit, showcasing its form and scale.
