- Abstract
- Optically excited electrons can create a significant effect in modifying materials properties. My research is to use computational simulations to quantify those modifications. But where do electrons go under optical excitation? Computational visualization tools can help.In this figure, light with a specific frequency shines on diamonds with divacancies centers. Somewhat counterintuitively, those excited electrons can be localized near the divacancies centers. These excited electrons can modify the binding energy of divacancies in diamonds, greatly increasing the diamond's capability of hosting spin defects.Beyond this image, we hope to deliver the message: optical excitation could be a tool to modify materials properties, and computational simulations could be an aid in helping us understand those modifications.
