Abstract
Describes life and work of radiochemist and historian Kenji Yoshihara (1929-2022), with emphasis on Yoshihara's historical work on Masataka Ogawa. In 1908 Ogawa reported a new element he named nipponium. Yoshihara made a strong case that Ogawa had actually observed rhenium before its later recognized discovery.
