Abstract
This project investigates the ideology and workings behind greenhouses, such as the Plant Biology Greenhouse of Urbana-Champaign. On the basis of interviews and participant observation, the author finds that greenhouses aim to change the way people think about our environment, enhancing the presentation of the conservatory with commissioned art from a range of media: sculpture, music, animation, and performance. The project provides a reflective analysis of personal experiences in the greenhouse and the role of nature in helping people to grow and develop.
The university offers an extraordinary opportunity to study and document student communities, life, and culture. This collection includes research on the activities, clubs, and durable social networks that comprise sometimes the greater portion of the university experience for students.
