Abstract
This project investigates how students financially support themselves with jobs while also being a fulltime student. On the basis of participant observation and interviews, the study finds that many students have fulltime summer jobs, which contributes significantly to their financial resources. Students who work during the academic year usually work 10-20 hours per week. Those who have jobs that earn them tips usually work fewer hours, but their job is more stressful. Jobs create opportunities for additional social networks, but also for social tensions and conflicts. While some students work to support their education, others work to earn some extra cash (or “booze money”) for the weekend. The study also discusses financial aid through student loans.
