Abstract
The idea of a common defense agreement for the countries of the European Union has gained momentum after the Treaty of Lisbon, which took effect in December, 2009. It has long-term implications for EU member countries as well as their non-EU neighbors and the global community.
This issue provides an overview and assessment of the issues faced by EU members and defense leaders as they establish institutions and policies to defend Europe and European interests.
