- Abstract
- As more information goes online, librarians are interested in understanding how their patrons utilize the resources available to them as well as understand how people do research in the digital age. Although there are noted differences in information seeking habits between different variables such as sex and age, little research has been done to compare the research habits among researchers from different continents and having different language skills. As part of a two year, grant funded research project between a major international corporation and the University of Illinois, researchers look at how global employees utilize the research resources provided to them. This poster will examine differences in information seeking habits among researchers dispersed geographically around the world as well as across different language preferences. Data from this study can help information professionals understand how to reach out to different cultural groups in order to assist them in searching and disseminating information, as well as designing interfaces and features that meet the needs of a diverse group of users. It can also be utilized to design training that transcends cultural and geographical boundaries.
