Abstract

This image contains two fibroblast cells that were fixed on a microscope slide after being stained with rhodamine phalloidin (red), wheat germ agglutinin (green), and 4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (blue) in order to visualize various structures within the cell. Here, the A-T rich regions of the cell's DNA within the nucleus, parts of the surface plasma membrane, and the structural actin fibers the are all highlighted by these stains. This image was obtained during an Experimental Techniques in Cell Biology fluorescence microscopy laboratory session in the fall of 2013 as part of a semester-long course dedicated to identifying, quantifying, and localizing a given protein of interest based on structural and immunological characteristics.
