This image is an example of a density color map of the sheep tibiofemoral articulation. These color maps were taken of the joints of the sheep hind limb to asses changes in bone density in sheep exposed to flexed and inclined exercise postures. There were trends that showed shifts in highest density locations as a result of different types of motion, and the research is still ongoing. These kind of density studies may be able to provide us with a methodology to use on hominid fossils, providing insight on the evolution of bipedalism.
