- Abstract
- In war, they will kill some of us; we shall destroy all of them -Thomas Jefferson War not just happens in macro world, but also exists in the world that we cannot see with naked eyes. Proteins sometimes are fighting with each other, the winner usually can have the right to stay, in the meantime, the one that is defeated will lose their territory and their functions. This is a war without any gunsmoke, however, still extremely bloody. The picture was taken using fluorescent microscope about two proteins, COP (green) and F-actin (red). My study has been focusing on a protein called COP, tagged with green fluorescent protein. COP can depolymerize F-actin which is one of the key proteins forming the cytoskeleton. Cytoskeleton is as castle to protect cells and crucial to cell proliferation and differentiation. Cancer cells usually grow and divide at an unregulated and quickened pace. One possible way to stop the cancer cells growing is to stop the cytoskeleton forming. Human has been fighting against cancer over hundreds years. If COP could win the battle with F-actin to prevent the cytoskeleton forming of cancer cells, there will be a hope to cure cancer.
