Abstract
This qualitative study examines three cases of business organizations that successfully adapted to radically changed environments. The study acknowledges the situational nature of organizational adaptation by examining environmental influences and factors of organizational context, including leadership and learning, as both impetuses for adaptation and as resources for doing the necessary adaptive work. In particular, the use of leadership and learning strategies, along with other factors, used in the adaptive process are explored through interviews and artifacts collected from employees who were part of each organization during its adaptive period. Learning as an underlying process for adaptation is discussed in depth.
