Abstract
My dissertation brings together the aforementioned issues related to questions of canon formation, nation-building, gender, and the economic market of symbolic goods. It highlights how literary works and cultural artifacts dialogue and negotiate with the political and intellectual processes of nation-building throughout the nineteenth-century. Anthologies analyzed include, but are not limited to, La lira argentina by Ramon Diaz (1824), El parnaso oriental by Luciano Lira (1835-37), America poetica by Argentinean Juan Maria Gutierrez (1846), the whole anthological production of Chilean Jose Domingo Cortes such as Flores chilenas (1862), Parnaso chileno (1871), Parnaso arjentino (1873), and Poetisas americanas (1875), and the Antologia de poetas argentinos by Juan de la Cruz Puig (1910).
