Abstract
"In this project I assert that masquerade offers an historical, critical, and theoretical means of paying attention to the competing narratives articulated in the broad range of communication practices. I offer masquerade analysis as a methodological approach which seeks to achieve the goal of a multiperspectival Cultural Studies. Three cases are at the core of this study: Anthony ""The Mighty Gabby"" Carter, Alison Hinds, and Ricardo ""Lil' Rick"" Reid. By analyzing these Calypso/Soca artists performances utilizing the methodological resonances of the metaphor of masquerade, this study explores the constitution of gendered, classed, raced and sexualized national identities."
