Abstract
Since 2010, the University has taken several major steps toward achieving zero waste. In 2013, the University engaged the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center to conduct a campus-wide waste characterization study to better understand priorities and opportunities for waste reduction. The Illinois Sustainable Technology Center (ISTC), a unit of the Prairie Research Institute at the University of Illinois, created a methodology for waste stream characterization and evaluation that provides building-level performance measures and achievable recommendations for improvement.
This report presents user survey results and recommendations for improvements based on waste characterization studies conducted at the Alice Campbell Alumni Center, Henry Administration Building, Swanlund Administration Building, and Illini Union Bookstore.
